A couple of years ago, Sandhi met up with some artist friends to discuss creating a group show -- they decided to start with a bible story as a prompt.
Sandhi does not practice a religion, but chose a female heroine from the Bible, Queen Esther. She may not have been a modern feminist, but she was brave and her actions helped save her people from certain destruction.
Anyway, Sandhi created a portrait of a young woman with flowing brown hair; a crown in metallics and jewels embellished with small gems and rhinestones. She fashioned the background as the blue tile walls of the Palace of Xerxes and wrote the word spoken by Esther in the background.
